Insight into the adaptive evolution of mitochondrial genomes in intertidal chitons

چکیده

ABSTRACT The intertidal zone is one of the most stressful environments, with extreme shifts in temperature, salinity, pH and oxygen concentration. Marine molluscs, particularly chitons that belong to category ecologically significant organisms, survive this environment, are ideal systems for studying stress adaptation. Mitochondria known be critical energy homeostasis, changes environmental factors result their dysfunction consequent injury organism. Intertidal organisms exception respect because they capable maintaining mitochondrial integrity. Here, we used genetic components from seven infer phylogenetic relationships. Selection analyses on individual protein-coding genes (PCGs) were performed identify map potentially adaptive residues modelled structures respiratory chain complexes. results showed amino acid sites under diversifying selection all PCGs, indicating genome undergoing evolution. Such observed proton pump as well translocation channel transmembrane helices surrounding loop regions, thus implying functional modification proteins essential survival dynamic environment zone.

Analysis of horse genomes provides insight into the diversification and adaptive evolution of karyotype

Karyotypic diversification is more prominent in Equus species than in other mammals. Here, using next generation sequencing technology, we generated and de novo assembled quality genomes sequences for a male wild horse (Przewalski's horse) and a male domestic horse (Mongolian horse), with about 93-fold and 91-fold coverage, respectively. Portion of Y chromosome from wild horse assemblies (3 M b...

Computational investigations into the evolution of mitochondrial genomes

The importance in studying mitochondrial genome evolution came from the discovery of a large number of human diseases that are caused by mitochondrial dysfunction (e.g., Parkinson and Alzheimer). Many of these diseases are a result of a mutation in one of the mitochondrial genes or a defective mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) maintenance, mostly caused by genetic defects in proteins involved in mtDNA ...

Complete DNA sequences of the mitochondrial genomes of the pathogenic yeasts Candida orthopsilosis and Candida metapsilosis: insight into the evolution of linear DNA genomes from mitochondrial telomere mutants

We determined complete mitochondrial DNA sequences of the two yeast species, Candida orthopsilosis and Candida metapsilosis, and compared them with the linear mitochondrial genome of their close relative, C.parapsilosis. Mitochondria of all the three species harbor compact genomes encoding the same set of genes arranged in the identical order. Differences in the length of these genomes result m...

Contrasting Patterns of Nucleotide Substitution Rates Provide Insight into Dynamic Evolution of Plastid and Mitochondrial Genomes of Geranium

Geraniaceae have emerged as a model system for investigating the causes and consequences of variation in plastid and mitochondrial genomes. Incredible structural variation in plastid genomes (plastomes) and highly accelerated evolutionary rates have been reported in selected lineages and functional groups of genes in both plastomes and mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes), and these phenomena ha...
